Van Don-Mong Cai Expressway, the most modern one in Quang Ninh Province, was opened to traffic on September 1 after two years of construction.

The 80-km expressway, which allows for a maximum speed of 120 km per hour, cost VND14 trillion.

The expressway was divided into two separate sections, with the first spanning 16km between Van Don and Tien Yen and funded by the province, and the second stretching more than 60km from Tien Yen to Mong Cai and built by Sun Group.

The four-lane expressway will connect with the Mong Cai International Border Gate and three international airports Van Don, Noi Bai and Cat Bi, facilitating logistics services and trading activities with other provinces and countries.

Van Don-Mong Cai is the final section of a 571-km expressway connecting Lao Cai, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Halong, Van Don and Mong Cai. This is the longest expressway in Vietnam.

With Van Don-Mong Cai put into service, Quang Ninh has the most kilometers of expressway, at 176 km, accounting for 17 percent of Vietnam’s total current length of expressways.
