If you feel as though your home doesn’t smell quite as good as it could then you are not alone. This guide will help you to make the right changes, so you can eliminate bad smells while making your home a haven.
Focus on your Kitchen
Kitchen smells are somewhat fluid. The smell of the kitchen will depend on what is cooking. If you want your kitchen to smell better then one thing you can do is neutralize and then freshen your space. If you have a foul smell in the kitchen then smell around your dishwasher. Although it may sound counterintuitive, you do need to clean out your dishwasher from time to time. You will be able to reference your dishwasher cleaning instructions here. If you can, make sure that you also put some coffee grounds in the fridge or the freezer. If you do this then you will be able to absorb the smells from last week’s leftovers. Don’t have coffee to hand? Soak a cotton ball with some vanilla extract so you can eliminate the smell. You can also invest in plant based cleaning products if you want to clear out your fridge without harsh chemicals.
Move on to the Bathroom
Bathrooms are very easy to work with if you know what to do. You can create a spa-like scent with ease too. Hang some eucalyptus branches in your shower if you want to make a difference. The great thing about doing this is that the steam will rise and release the oils in the leaves. This will leave your bathroom smelling great and it will also help clear your sinuses. You can also light some candles, or get an air freshener. Things like this can leave a constant, good smell in the room and this is usually enough to counter any bad odors.
Next Up, Bedroom
You will probably spend a lot of time in your bedroom, whether you are zonked out or just relaxing. Distribute some dryer sheets in the drawers and the cabinets in your bedroom. If you find that your clothes are still a bit musty then put some vodka in a spray bottle and then go over all of your clothes. If you can do this then you will soon find that the alcohol ends up lifting the smell right out of the clothes, leaving you with a nice smell in the end. Make sure that you are liberal here, but at the same time, don’t oversaturate your clothes. If you do then you may find that the alcohol smell lingers.
Finally, the Living Room
Sometimes, going around with the vacuum will leave a bad odor. If you want to stop this then put some cotton balls and switch some essential oils into the vacuum bag. The best thing about this is that it will transfer the scent to your carpet or rug, which can leave you with a fantastic smell throughout the home. Deodorize the carpet by using some baking soda, and don’t be afraid to invest in a few dehumidifiers if you notice that you have a lot of condensation on the window.
