Telangana Reports Dengue Surge



Hyderabad: During the months of of August and September a rise is see in seasonal diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, and malaria. Telangana, minister for medical, health and family welfare Damodar Rajanarshimha conducted a review meeting and released data from January 1, to August 30, 2024. According to the data, Telangana reported 6,242 cases of Dengue out of 106,356 samples tested, with a positivity rate of 6%. The top 10 dengue high risk districts with a significant number of cases are Hyderabad (2,073), Suryapet (506), Medchal Malkajgiri (475), Khammam (407), Nizamabad (362), Nalgonda (351), Ranga Reddy (260), Jagitial (209), Sangareddy (198) and Warangal (128)

Chikungunya and Malaria Updates
Chikungunya cases in the state remain comparatively lower, with 167 reported cases out of 3,127 samples tested, reflecting a positivity rate of 5%. The high-risk districts are are Hyderabad (74), Mahabubnagar (20), Wanaparthy (17), Ranga Reddy (16) and Medchal (11). Malaria, on the other hand, has seen a minimal positivity rate of 0.01%, with 197 cases reported from over 2.8 million samples tested since the beginning of the year.

Fever Surveys
Since July 23, 2024, an extensive fever survey has been conducted across the state, covering over 1,68,42,891 households and screening more than 5,17,19,839 individuals. Nearly 2,99,708 fever cases have been identified and are being monitored closely.

The state government has taken proactive measures to control the spread of seasonal disease by carrying out anti-mosquito measures such as fogging, spraying, and anti-larval operations regularly, particularly in high-risk areas. Additionally, a door-to-door awareness campaign on preventive measures has been launched. Additionally, the state government has operationalised 42 T-Hub Labs for testing and 53 blood banks to ensure adequate blood supply. All 33 districts have 108 ambulances on standby for emergencies and medicines and logistics for malaria have been made available in all districts.
