China a key driver of global nuclear energy development: CAEA vice chairman

(ECNS)–The Chinese mainland has 56 nuclear power units in operation, and 46 units approved or under construction, making it a key driver of global nuclear energy development, said Liu Jing vice chairman of the China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA), at the 68th International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) general conference in Vienna on Monday.

China will open 12 nuclear research facilities and experimental platforms to countries around the world, including those in the Global South, to enhance global cooperation on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of China’s accession to the IAEA, Liu added.

China has already established eight IAEA collaborative centers and developed robust research cooperation mechanisms on nuclear science and technology with countries such as France, Russia, and the European Union.
