(ECNS) — The China-Laos railway has transported over 100 million metric tons of goods, according to data from the China Railway Kunming Bureau Group Co Ltd.
So far, trade along the railway covers more than 10 countries including Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Cambodia.
Main products transported on the rail have expanded from the initial 10 varieties to more than 2,900, from rubber, chemical fertilizers, and general merchandise to electronics, photovoltaics, communication products and vehicles.
The number of cross-border freight trains running each day has increased from two at the beginning of line to 17 in 2024.
The China-Laos railway has implemented measures to enhance train maintenance capacity to 1,000 vehicles per day and completed inspection of over 330,000 cross-border freight trains.
The 1,035-kilometer-long rail linking Kunming in southwest China’s Yunnan Province with Vientiane in Laos, began operations on Dec. 3, 2021, becoming a “golden channel” between China and Southeast Asia.
As the volume of international freight trains on the China-Laos Railway continues to rise, a number of key development projects have been put into operation and will effectively improve the cargo transport capacity of the China-Laos railway.
