Rishabh Pant has scored a splendid hundred in the first Test of the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday (September 21). Pant achieved the feat on Day 3 of the series opener in India’s second innings on what happens to be Pant’s first Test match since recovering from injuries sustained a near-fatal car crash in December 2022.
It is fitting that Pant’s last Test match also came against the same opposition against Bangladesh. And in his comeback Test, the left-hander played a fluent knock, having a lot of fun on the pitch, as one has come to expect of him, especially in the longest format of the game where he likes to take the attack to the opposition whenever he senses an opportunity. However, Pant fell shortly after his hundred, getting out to Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 109 off 128 balls.

India On Top In Chennai Test
As far as India’s situation in the Chennai Test is concerned, the hosts right on top. The Men In Blue were in a spot of bother when they were reduced to 144/6 after being invited to bat first by Bangladesh. However, a hundred from Ravichandran Ashwin in the first innings, coupled with an 86 from Ravindra Jadeja and their 199-run partnership for the seventh wicket allowed India to get bailed out of trouble.
A sublime bowling performance led by Jasprit Bumrah’s four-wicket haul meant Bangladesh were all out for 149, meaning a 227-run lead to India. The hosts, however, did not enforce follow on and batted again. In the second innings, knocks from Pant and Shubman Gill have extended India’s lead to past 450 with still over two days remaining in the Test.
