Protests erupt in Jammu & Kashmir’s Budgam over killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: A protest march took place on Saturday in Jammu & Kashmir’s Budgam in response to the killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah by the Israel Defence Force (IDF).
The Israeli military had earlier in the day said that it had “eliminated” Hassan Nasrallah, the long-time leader of the Hezbollah militant group, in a precision airstrike in Beirut on the previous day.In the statement, the IDF declared, “Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorise the world.”
J&K leaders mourn
President of J&K Anjuman-e-Sharie, Shian Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi Al Safavi on the killing of Nasrallah told the news agency ANI that, “No matter how much we mourn his (Hassan Nasrallah) death, it will always be lesser. There should be peace and that was his mission. He was alleged to be involved in terrorism so that the people wouldn’t get to know what he was doing for humanity and what he wanted. He wanted Palestine to be free for the people of Palestine. I wanted to say to the entire humanity and Islamic people, that this will bring something extraordinary for which he has sacrificed his life.
Al Safavi further continued that Nasrallah wanted Palestine to be free and that his sacrifice would inspire countless others to carry forward his mission.
“His loss can’t be measured but thousands of Nasrallah will born from his blood and will take this mission forward and get success,” he added.
Election campaign cancelled
Later, the People’s Democratic party chief Mehbooba Mufti said that she will not hold a campaign for ongoing J&K assembly elections for a day in solidarity with Palestine and Lebanon following the death of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasarallah.
“Cancelling my campaign tomorrow in solidarity with the martyrs of Lebanon & Gaza especially Hassan Nasarullah. We stand with the people of Palestine & Lebanon in this hour of immense grief & exemplary resistance, Mehbooba wrote sharing a post on X.
Who was Nasrallah?
Hassan Nasrallah, who became secretary-general of Hezbollah in 1992, transformed the group into one of the most powerful militant organizations in the Middle East.
Nasrallah was born in 1960 into a modest Shiite family and under his guidance, Hezbollah declared its formation with a manifesto that called for the “obliteration” of Israel, positioning the group as a key player in the ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict.
His tenure was marked by a staunch anti-Israel stance and a commitment to resisting perceived Western imperialism.
