'Let's be honest': English great's push for major change

English cricket great Michael Vaughan has urged the game’s governing body to consider changing Test matches to four days moving forward.

After two high-profile clashes over the weekend finished inside three days, calls are growing louder for the ICC to shake things up.

Australia completely demolished India in the second Test, while England once again got the better of the Black Caps, with both matches finishing ahead of schedule.

In the last 50 Test matches across the sport, there have been just three drawn matches and more than 60 per cent of those fixtures didn’t make it through to a fifth day.

Speaking on SEN Radio, the former England captain explained why the change needs to be made and pointed out the evolution led by T20 cricket as a major factor.

“We’ve got players that are incredibly entertaining now,” Vaughan said. SEN Afternoons.

“I believe four-day cricket would be easier to schedule. It’d be easy for everyone to understand that cricket starts every Thursday when we’re playing the Test match game and it finishes on a Sunday … if it makes it.

“Let’s be honest, the way that the players go out and play their business now, they don’t play like I used to play or some of the teams back in the 80s and 90s played.

“They’re playing a brand of cricket which is pretty much to try and win as quick as they possibly can and put the opposition under pressure.

“I genuinely believe that the administrators need to seriously consider if it’s time.”

Last year, England faced Ireland in a four-day Test match, which ultimately finished in the final session of day three.

Australia will return to the field against India on Saturday morning at The Gabba.
