Karnataka Minister wants BJP leader to ‘swear to God’ in derogatory remarks case

Karnataka Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar, who accused BJP MLC CT Ravi of making derogatory remarks against her in the Legislative Council, on Tuesday, challenged him to take an oath in front of the deity at Dharmasthala to speak the truth.

Hebbalkar’s statement came after Ravi denied the allegation, calling it “false.” Speaking to reporters, Hebbalkar said: “I have devotion and faith in god. He has repeatedly claimed he did not use derogatory words. Let the law take its course, but I do not expect a response from him. He is misleading the public and his party leaders.”

The Minister further invited Ravi to Dharmasthala, known for its association with Lord Manjunatha, asking him to take an oath in the presence of the deity. “You believe in God, CT Ravi. Dharmasthala is very close to your native, and people across the state consider Lord Manjunatha as the embodiment of Dharma. Come there with your wife, and I will bring my family. If you have any morality, take the Pramaana (oath),” Hebbalkar said.

The incident reportedly occurred on December 19 during a heated altercation between the two in the Legislative Council. Ravi was arrested on the same day based on Hebbalkar’s complaint. He was later released following an interim order from the Karnataka High Court on December 20, which cited procedural lapses in his arrest. However, the court directed Ravi to cooperate with the investigation.

Dharmasthala, located on the banks of the Nethravati River in Dakshina Kannada, is a renowned pilgrimage site with a rich 800-year-old history. According to local legends, anyone who utters a lie in the presence of Lord Manjunatha faces severe consequences.
