The ₹413 crore fourth railway terminal at Cherlapally will be formally inaugurated by Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in the presence of Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy and other dignitaries on December 28.
The station will have a capacity to handle additional 15 pairs of trains with four extra high-level platforms. The existing five platforms have also been extended to accommodate full length trains. Another 10 lines are available, taking the total capacity to 19 lines, said a press release on Thursday.
Cherlapally is located on the eastern side of Hyderabad, an area experiencing rapid development, and is conveniently situated near the Outer Ring Road (ORR). It is expected to reduce the congestion on other existing rail terminals of Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Kacheguda.
It will feature spacious concourse areas and a modern elevation with illuminated facade lighting. Two spacious foot-over-bridges (FoBs), one 12-metre wide connecting all the platforms directly from the concourse and another six-metre wide to facilitate seamless inter platform movement, and lifts and escalators in all platforms are other features.
