250,000 warm supplies sent to quake-hit residents in Xizang



(ECNS) — Xizang officials announced on Thursday that over 250,000 items of warm supplies, including blankets, quilts and cotton clothes, have been distributed to quake-affected residents.

Hao Tao, deputy director of the Emergency Management Department of the Xizang Autonomous Region, said that a total of 224 resettlement sites have been established in the quake-hit area, housing 47,500 people.

According to Hao, over 612,000 items of emergency supplies, including cotton tents, folding beds, heaters, food, and medicine, have been urgently mobilized. Additionally, 104 truckloads of fuel have been delivered, and 390 emergency vehicles are on standby for transport needs.

In addition, food supplies such as rice, flour, vegetables, beef and lamb, have been transported to the people in need.

The Chinese People’s Liberation Army, civil servants, police officers, and social catering enterprises have been organized to provide meals in the quake-hit area. Cooking utensils have also been distributed to ensure that residents have access to food.

The 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck at 9:05 a.m. (Beijing Time), with the epicenter located at Dingri County, Xigaze City, southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region.

As of 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, the earthquake has caused 126 deaths and damaged 27,248 households. It has impacted five counties, including Dingri, Lazi and Sa’gya, along with 26 towns and 206 villages (communities), affecting approximately 61,500 people.
