Coimbatore man duped of ₹28.47 lakh in online investment fraud


A 38-year-old man from Coimbatore was allegedly duped of ₹28.47 lakh in an online investment scheme.

C. Gokulnath from Seeranaickenpalayam, in his complaint filed with the Coimbatore city cybercrime police station, alleged that he had received details of an investment scheme from an unidentified person and joined a Telegram group, through which he invested ₹50,000. After the initial investment yielded him a profit, he made another investment of ₹28,47,500 in several installments between December 4, 2024, and January 8, 2025.

While he was shown profits for his investments in a wallet account, he was unable to withdraw the amount. Upon contacting the person, he was asked to pay ₹14 lakh as tax, which is when he realised he was cheated.

Police registered a case on Sunday and launched an investigation.
