The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a ban on liquor at 17 places of worship across the state, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Friday, adding that liquor shops in these places will be closed permanently.
The 17 places where a liquor ban has been implemented are: Ujjain, Datia, Panna, â Mandla, â Multai, Mandsaur, Maihar, â Omkareshwar, â Maheshwar, Mandleshwar, â Orchha, Chitrakoot, â Amarkantak, â Salkanpur, â Barmankalan,â Barmankhurd, Linga, â Kundalpur and Bandakpur.
Liquor shops in these places will not be shifted anywhere and will be shut down permanently, Yadav said.
The ban is applicable in six municipal corporations, six municipalities, six municipal councils and gram panchayats.
“Everyone is aware of the ill effects of liquor consumption. We don’t want our young generation to get spoilt, as they are the future of the country. The Madhya Pradesh government will ban the sale of liquor at 17 religious places,” Yadav said.
The Chief Minister stressed that alcohol addiction caused hardships for families and said his government was trying to usher in good governance in Madhya Pradesh.
“We are moving towards a big decision of alcohol ban in spiritual places. Alcohol addiction causes a lot of problems in a family and we are trying to bring good governance under the leadership of PM Modi. We want that women, children, farmers and everyone lead a better life,” he said.
“Liquor will be banned wherever Lord Krishna and Lord Ram have set their foot in Madhya Pradesh,” he further said.
