Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath has directed officials to initiate action against those responsible for installing unauthorised advertisements within BBMP limits.
Speaking at a meeting held on Monday at the BBMP head office to discuss various issues, Mr. Nath emphasised the need for strict measures to curb illegal advertisements across the city. His directions comes after The Hindu reported on gaps in implementation of the blanket ban on advertisements.Â
He instructed officials to identify unauthorised advertisements in all eight zones under BBMP’s jurisdiction and ensure their immediate removal. Furthermore, legal action, including filing of complaints, must be initiated against violators, he said.
ID for street vendors
Meanwhile, a survey conducted across the eight BBMP zones has identified 27,655 street vendors. Mr. Nath directed officials to issue ID cards to these vendors and ensure they conduct business only in designated areas. However, street vendors and unions have pointed out that it is in sharp contrast to 1.42 lakh street vendors who have secured loans under the PM Street Vendors’ Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PMSVANidhi) scheme.Â
