N Biren Singh, Chief Minister of violence-hit Manipur, resigns

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh stepped down after meeting the BJP top brass in Delhi on Sunday. The Chief Minister’s resignation came almost two years since the ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities began in the state.

N Biren Singh flew to Delhi on Saturday evening amid speculation about a possible no-confidence motion by the opposition in the state’s upcoming Assembly session. On Wednesday, Singh and seven MLAs travelled to Delhi to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah. However, they returned to Imphal after attending Kumbh Yatra without meeting him.
