His knock guided the Kiwis to a commanding six-wicket victory while successfully chasing 305 at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. In the process, Williamson became the fastest New Zealand batter to reach 7,000 ODI runs and the second-fastest overall, surpassing Indian legend Virat Kohli.
Kane Williamson has surpassed Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Sourav Ganguly, Rohit Sharma, Brian Lara and others to become the second-fastest batter to reach 7,000 ODI runs. He achieved the milestone in just 159 innings, while Kohli took 161 innings.
Hashim Amla remains the fastest to the landmark, reaching the feat in just 150 innings. Before Williamson, Martin Guptill held the record for being the quickest New Zealand player to 7,000 ODI runs, achieving it in 186 innings.
