(ECNS) — China has claimed a total of 70 medals at the 9th Asian Winter Games so far, surpassing its previous record of 61 set at Changchun in 2007.

Ten gold medals were awarded on Tuesday, with the Chinese team securing six golds, five silvers, and five bronzes.

Notably, this achievement also ties the record for the most medals won by a single delegation at a single edition of the Asian Winter Games, set by Kazakhstan at Astana-Almaty 2011.

China’s record-breaking moment came in the women’s freeski slopestyle final, with Liu Mengting clinching gold, followed by Yang Ruyi and Han Linshan taking silver and bronze, respectively.

Meanwhile, Thailand’s Paul Henri Vieuxtemps captured bronze in the men’s freeski slopestyle, marking the country’s first-ever medal at the Asian Winter Games.

China swept the gold and silver medals in the freestyle skiing women’s aerials synchro event on Tuesday, with the pairs of Feng Junxi/Wang Xue and Chen Meiting/Xu Mengtao securing the top two spots.

Moreover, China dominated the speed skating events, claiming all four gold medals on the day. In the men’s 1,000-meter final, Ning Zhongyan set a new Asian and Games records with a time of 1 minute, 8.81 seconds to take the gold.

In the men’s and women’s team pursuit finals, China claimed gold in both events. With a total of 11 golds, 5 silvers, and 5 bronzes across the 14 speed skating events at this year’s Asian Winter Games, China set a new record, marking its best-ever performance.

After four days of competition, China maintained a commanding lead at the top of both the gold medal and overall medal standings. The Republic of Korea followed with 12 golds, 12 silvers, and 11 bronzes, while Japan ranked third with 5 golds, 6 silvers, and 10 bronzes.
