The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday carried out raids on the premises of Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel, in reference to an alleged liquor rip-off linked to a cash laundering case, information company PTI reported, citing official sources. 

ED is conducting searches at 14 places throughout Chhattisgarh, together with the Bhilai residence of Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, in reference to a cash laundering case, ANI reported. The raids are being carried out beneath the Prevention of Cash Laundering Act (PMLA).

The ED had earlier alleged that the Chhattisgarh liquor ‘rip-off’ precipitated a ‘huge loss’ to the state exchequer whereas producing over Rs 2,100 crore in illicit proceeds for beneficiaries of a liquor syndicate. A number of people, together with state authorities officers and businessmen, have been arrested within the case.
