The motion towards the Theni policemen comes amid the continuing outrage over the death of a temple security guard B. Ajith Kumar after being crushed up by policemen in Sivaganga, who had taken him in unlawful custody.
The video confirmed a policeman beating up Ramesh, an autorickshaw driver, contained in the police station. Police mentioned Ramesh was detained by police for creating nuisance in a public place and dropped at the police station. He was allegedly in an inebriated state. The video confirmed the person holding on the legs of a policeman pleading to be spared from the lathi blows. Police claimed he was detained for a while and later launched on station bail.
A press launch issued on Wednesday night mentioned 5 police personnel, together with Inspector Abdullah, SSI Sivasubbu, police constable Pandi, Grade I policemen Marichamy and Valirajan, had been transferred to the Armed Reserve.
Sources mentioned an advocate Pandiarajan had been to the police station along with his shopper in January and had seen the police beating an individual.
