PM’s hometown to get new Archaeological Museum showcasing 2,500 years of history

Vadnagar, the birthplace of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is set to receive a new cultural attraction in the form of the Archaeological Experience Museum. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to inaugurate the museum on Thursday, which is designed to offer a comprehensive look at the city’s 2,500-year-old history through an immersive and interactive experience.

Built at an estimated cost of 298 crore, the four-storey museum spans 12,500 square meters and will house over 5,000 artifacts uncovered through excavations in Vadnagar.

The museum aims to highlight the multi-layered cultural history of Vadnagar, displaying a range of archaeological findings, including coins, tools, weapons, sculptures, ornaments, and organic materials like food grains and skeletal remains. It also features rare items such as shells and ceramic assemblages, showcasing the city’s long-standing historical significance.

The museum is equipped with nine thematic galleries that chronicle the city’s art, sculpture, and language from different periods. Visitors can explore Vadnagar’s ancient cultural legacy through physical displays and digital mediums, making the museum an educational hub for both history enthusiasts and students.

One of the key highlights of the museum is its direct connection to the live excavation site via a bridge, allowing visitors to view archaeological remains at depths of 1618 meters.

The museum also features an experimental walkway shed, where visitors can explore and observe ongoing excavations and the historical treasures that continue to be unearthed.

Vadnagar, located in Gujarat’s Mehsana district, is renowned for its unique blend of Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, and Islamic cultural influences. Over the years, the city has been a significant centre of religious and educational heritage, and this museum will showcase its rich history.

In addition to the museum, Amit Shah will also inaugurate a new sports complex in Vadnagar, which will cater to local athletes with facilities for badminton, basketball, table tennis, judo, and more. A multi-purpose indoor hall and a 200-bed hostel for both boys and girls have also been included in the project.

The inauguration event will also feature a film on Prime Minister Modis Modi’s journey, further underscoring Vadnagar’s importance in shaping his educational and political background.
