A day after losing the Delhi Assembly election to the BJP, senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including party national convener Arvind Kejriwal and outgoing Chief Minister Atishi, met the party’s MLAs-elect on Sunday to discuss the party’s future.

In the meeting at his Ferozshah Road residence, Mr. Kejriwal urged the 22 winning candidates to serve the people and ensure that the BJP delivers on its poll promises. This will be the first time since AAP was formed that its MLAs will sit in the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Ms. Atishi, who is among the winning candidates, said a legislative party meeting would soon be held to nominate the Leader of the Opposition.

‘Constructive Oppn.’

“AAP will play the role of a constructive Opposition and ensure that the BJP fulfills its promises, such as providing ₹2,500 per month to women by March 8 and providing 300 units of free electricity, and seeing to it that the welfare schemes started by AAP are continued,” she said.

Commenting on the results, Ms. Atishi said the party accepts the people’s decision. However, she alleged that money and liquor were “distributed” ahead of the poll and that “police turned a blind eye” to the “BJP’s hooliganism”.

Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who was also present at the meeting, said the party candidates had put up a good fight in the election. “Considering the open misuse of government machinery, distribution of money, and liquor during the election, all our candidates fought remarkably well,” he said.
