Kim Cattrall ruled herself out of returning to the hit franchise after a bitter spat with co-star Sarah Jessica Parker, and despite Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis reprising their roles for the upcoming reboot And Just Like That, the 65-year-old has declined to sign up for the show
‘s character Samantha Jones hasn’t been killed off in the upcoming reboot amid hopes she’ll return.
And Just Like That is set to hit TV screens in December, with, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis reprising their iconic roles for the new series which follows the trio’s lives in New York, more than 10 years after the last spin-off film was released.
Kim, 65, played PR guru Samantha Jones in the long-running HBO show, as well as the two SATC movies, but following a bitter spat with co-star Sarah Jessica, she ruled herself out of ever returning to the show.
Fans went into overdrive trying to speculate how the reboot could convincingly carry on without Samantha, with rumours suggesting her character was going to be killed off.
According to the, Kim’s character is instead living in London, and the door has been left open for her to return to the show when it begins filming a second season.
A source told the outlet that it “made no sense” to have Samantha still living in New York and not interacting with Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda, so shipping her off to London was the “perfect way to keep her alive and explain her absence.”
Writers had originally thought about sending Samantha to Los Angeles, but they had done that in the first Sex and the City movie, which showed her living in a huge beachside mansion.
“Viewers will learn that she is thriving in England even though she has fallen out with Carrie,” the source added.
And the show’s creators are hopeful that by touching upon Kim and Sarah Jessica’s real-life spat in the show, they can persuade the actress to return to reprise her iconic character one more time.
“Carrie is the one who has the tough time without Samantha and by the end of And Just Like That you’ll see Carrie extend the olive branch and try and rekindle the friendship,” the source revealed.
The show’s creators are hopeful Kim will return for the second season of And Just Like That, because she was “missed on set”, and they want Samantha to make a “triumphant return” to New York.
Back in 2017, Kim spoke about her feud with Sarah Jessica, and said she felt mistreated on the set of the TV series – and the movies – by all of her co-stars.
“This isn’t about more money. It’s not about more scenes. It’s not about any of those things. This is about a clear decision, an empowered decision in my life to end one chapter and start another,” she told Piers Morgan, as she ruled out ever returning to the hit franchise.
