Liverpool vs Brentford Jan 16, 2022 Match Preview and Stats

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he expects to have the exact same group of players available for this weekend’s Premier League clash against Brentford as the League Cup draw with Arsenal.

On Thursday, the Reds faced Arsenal at Anfield and only managed to draw 0-0 in the first leg of the League Cup semi final, despite the visitors being down to 10 men.

At a press conference on Friday, Klopp detailed some slight injuries suffered in that game, but none of them have proved serious.

“We got knocks last night: Robbo got a knock, Virg got a knock, Millie got a knock, but last night directly after the game, the medical department told me all will be fine, but there is a night between then and now so we will see that,” he said.

“But no ‘injuries’ so far, so it means same squad available like for the game last night.”

With the same group of players to choose from, it is unlikely Klopp will make a raft of changes for the Brentford game.

Alisson will start in goal behind the first-choice back four of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson.

There might be a swap in midfield as Curtis Jones impressed off the bench against Arsenal, so he might replace James Milner to slot in alongside Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.

Klopp may opt for a change in the final third, too, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain potentially replacing Takumi Minamino, who missed the best chance of the match against Arsenal, blazing over from a few yards despite staring at an empty net.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita remain unavailable due to their participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, while Divock Origi, Thiago and Harvey Elliott remain injured.
