Kerala Governor Khan calls Bhagavad Gita a legacy of India’s cultural legacy

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Thursday described the Bhagavad Gita as a legacy of India’s cultural history and a scripture for the welfare of all humanity.

Speaking at the 9th International Gita Conference held at Kurukshetra University in Haryana, Khan emphasised the Gita’s profound role in promoting environmental conservation, stating that its message of protecting the environment should be spread worldwide.

“The Gita reflects the unity and integrity of India,” Khan said. He added that the sacred text encapsulates the essence of the Upanishads and Vedic texts, offering valuable insights into sustainable living.

Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, who also addressed the conference, echoed Khan’s sentiments, highlighting the Gita’s message of environmental protection and its significance for addressing the challenges of human life. “The Gita is a sacred text for the welfare of all humanity,” Dattatreya remarked, adding that it offers solutions to many of life’s dilemmas.

Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (retd) stressed the Gita’s universal appeal, describing it as a guide that helps people make the right decisions during times of crisis. He noted that the teachings of the Gita resonate across cultures and provide a moral compass for navigating life’s complexities.

The event also saw the participation of Tanzania’s Minister for Information, Youth, Culture, and Sports, Tabia Maulid Mwita, who highlighted the deep connection between India and Tanzania in education and agriculture. Mwita expressed that the event would strengthen the relationship between the two countries, benefiting various sectors, including trade, health, and research.

The 18-day International Gita Mahotsav, organized by the Haryana government, will continue until December 15, with key events scheduled from December 5 to December 11. This year’s festival features Tanzania as the partner country and Odisha as the partner state.
