The suitcase was spotted by passers-by near the Sampla bus stand and they informed the police. On receiving information about the incident, the police and a forensic team reached the spot and found Narwal’s body inside the suitcase.
Police said the victim’s neck was wrapped with a dupatta and the victim had mehendi on her hands. Police suspect that Narwal, a resident of Rohtak’s Vijay Nagar area, may have been murdered by strangling her with the dupatta.
Her body was taken to PGIMS Rohtak for a post-mortem examination.
Narwal had posted many photos of herself with former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s son and Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda, and party MLA BB Batra on social media.
Reacting to the development, Batra demanded an SIT investigation into the matter and said Narwal used to participate in every programme of the Congress party.
Sampla police station in-charge Vijendra Singh said an investigation into the case began after he and his team reached the spot. He also said that a case had been registered.
Police said further action would be taken after the post-mortem was conducted.
Bhupinder Hooda, the former Haryana Chief Minister, said the news of Narwal’s “barbaric murder” was “shocking” and demanded a high-level impartial probe into the incident.
“The news of the barbaric murder of Congress worker Himani Narwal in Rohtak is extremely sad and shocking. I pay my tribute to the departed soul and express my deepest condolences to the family members. This in itself is a blot on the law and order situation of the state,” he tweeted in Hindi.
“There should be a high-level impartial investigation of this murder and the government should provide justice to the victim’s family as soon as possible and provide the harshest punishment to the culprits,” he said.
