ISRO’s POEM-4 Safely Re-Enters Earth’s Environment, Reinforces Area Particles-Free Dedication

Bengaluru:ISRO on Friday mentioned the fourth version of the PSLV Orbital platform Experiment Module (POEM-4), the repurposed spent higher stage of the Polar Satellite tv for pc Launch Automobile used for the area docking experiment mission, has re-entered the Earth’s ambiance.

The module re-entered Earth’s ambiance and impacted safely within the Indian Ocean at 02:33 UTC (08:03 IST) on April 4, 2025, ISRO confirmed in a publish on social media platform ‘X’.

“Lastly, the POEM-4 module re-entered the ambiance and impacted at 02:33 UTC (08:03 IST), April 04, 2025, within the Indian Ocean,” ISRO mentioned in a publish on ‘X’.

Describing the re-entry as a milestone, ISRO mentioned the occasion showcases its ongoing dedication to lowering area particles and supporting the long-term sustainability of outer area by its Particles Free Area Mission (DFSM).

POEM-4 was initially launched on December 30, 2024, as a part of the PSLV-C60 mission, which efficiently deployed twin SPADEX satellites at an altitude of 475 km. Following satellite tv for pc deployment, the specifically tailored higher stage—designated as POEM-4—remained in orbit for experimental functions.

The module was later de-orbited by engine restarts, bringing it to an almost round orbit at 350 km altitude with a 55.2° inclination. In a important step to make sure security, ISRO passivated the higher stage by venting out any leftover gas, thereby lowering dangers of unintentional break-up.

All through its operational interval, POEM-4 hosted 24 payloads, together with 14 from ISRO and 10 from non-governmental entities (NGEs). All of the onboard devices functioned efficiently, producing important scientific knowledge.

ISRO, in collaboration with america Area Command (USSPACECOM), carefully tracked POEM-4 throughout its time in orbit. Because the module’s orbit decayed to 174 km x 165 km, predictions pointed to an imminent atmospheric re-entry on April 4. The method was diligently monitored by ISRO’s System for Protected and Sustainable Area Operations Administration (IS4OM), making certain a managed and protected descent.

This occasion highlights ISRO’s management in accountable area practices, setting an instance for sustainable area operations worldwide.
