RSS chief pitches for elimination of phrases ‘socialist’, ‘secular’ from Preamble


RSS Basic Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale on Thursday pitched for the elimination of the phrases ‘socialist’ and ‘secular’ from the Preamble of the Structure, whereas lashing out on the Congress for imposing the Emergency 50 years ago.

The Emergency was declared on June 25, 1975, by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi-led Congress authorities. The 21-month interval – lasting till March 21, 1977 – noticed civil liberties being suspended, and a brutal crackdown on Opposition leaders and the liberty of the press.
