Cyclone Montha: Over 9,700 folks evacuated alongside Kakinada coast

Above 9,700 folks, principally fisherfolk, have been evacuated from the 67 villages within the 12 coastal Mandals alongside the Kakinada coast as reduction operations are in full swing to keep away from any loss due to cyclone Montha.

In a reduction operation report, Kakinada District Collector S. Shan Mohan has said: “Above 14 lakh individuals are anticipated to be affected alongside the Kakinada coast. 104 personnel from the NDRF and SDRF are engaged within the reduction operations”.

Three helipads are saved prepared for airlifting of the needy aside from arranging 200 swimmers and 140 boats for the reduction and rescue operation.

The stretch of Kakinada-Uppada-Thondangi has been on the alert because the shoreline is weak to erosion.

Cyclone Montha is ready to make landfall between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam close to Kakinada tonight as a extreme cyclonic storm. The IMD has issued a pink alert for 16 districts in Andhra Pradesh, warning of winds as much as 110 kmph and heavy rainfall. Hundreds have been evacuated, and CM Chandrababu Naidu has ordered zero-casualty preparedness.
