Trinamool Congress Nationwide Normal Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday (January 7, 2026) met with migrant staff at Tapan below West Bengal’s Balurghat constituency, which is led by BJP MP and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar. The TMC chief stated that the migrant staff didn’t obtain assist from the BJP chief after they have been detained in Maharashtra.
The 2 staff come from Balurghat have been detained in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi for allegations of being Bangladeshi nationals. They remained behind bars for nearly seven months.
“They (migrant staff) have been heckled and harassed for talking in Bengali… During which language does MP Sukanta Majumdar communicate? If talking in Bengali means being Bangladeshi, he (Sukanta Majumdar) too is Bangladeshi,” Mr. Banerjee stated after assembly with the 2 migrant staff, Asit Sarkar and Gautam Barman, at their residence.

Mr. Banerjee, a Lok Sabha MP himself and second-in-command within the TMC, raised questions on Mr. Majumdar’s alleged lack of motion to assist the 2 migrant staff and failure to tell the Maharashtra authorities that two individuals from his constituency have been wrongfully detained.
He requested Mr. Majumdar to take duty for the individuals who voted for and helped him win the elections.
