An earthquake of 4.1 magnitude shook Gujarat’s Kutch district within the wee hours of Saturday (January 17, 2026), inflicting panic amongst locals, although no casualties have been reported, officers stated.
The quake was recorded at 1:22 a.m. with its epicentre about 55 km north northeast (NNE) from Khavda within the district, the Gandhinagar-based Institute of Seismological Analysis (ISR) stated.
“No casualty or harm to property was reported,” a district catastrophe administration official stated. Kutch district is located in a “very excessive threat” seismic zone, and earthquakes of decrease depth happen there recurrently.
The 2001 earthquake in Kutch was the third-largest and second-most damaging in India over the past two centuries.
A 7.6 magnitude earthquake was reported on January 26, with its epicentre close to Bhachau in Kutch district, ensuing within the deaths of 13,800 folks and inflicting large-scale destruction.
